Supplemental Education Grant (SEG)

CGMA is accepting applications for the Supplemental Education Grant.
Priority Consideration Priority will be given to first-time applicants and junior enlisted personnel.
Approval is not guaranteed. Awards are determined based on funding availability after prioritizing first-time applicants and junior enlisted personnel.
Recipients will be notified in October 2026.
New This Cycle: Testimony Requirement Applicants must submit a personal testimony with a photo explaining how the grant supports their education goals.

Applications will open June 1, 2026.
Amount and Timing
- The maximum grant amount per household is $750. In the case of dual military families, the limit is $1,500 with no more than $750 per student.
- A member can apply for multiple grants during the calendar year, but the total amount can’t exceed $750 per calendar year.
- All grants are applied to the current calendar year, regardless of when costs were incurred.
- Requests must be received within 1 year from the date of payment for a qualified item.
Who's Eligible?
All CGMA members are eligible for SEGs on behalf of themselves, their spouse, and/or their dependent children under 23.
Eligibility is based on the status of the CGMA client and the student as of the first day of the course for which the SEG is being provided.
The student must be either:
- Enrolled in a college or university undergraduate or postgraduate degree program.
- Pursuing a multi course Vocational and Technical Training (VoTech) program approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs or Department of Education and designed to prepare the student for entry into a career field.
- Seeking a General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
- Completing a correspondence course that is part of a college or university degree program or VoTech certificate program.
- Taking advanced education tests such as Praxis, LSAT, etc.
SEGs cannot be used for:
- Dependents in high school or grade school.
- Costs for preparatory courses, licenses (maritime, real estate, AC&R, etc.), or certification courses (computer, maritime, law, medical, etc.).
- Any DoD, DHS, or advanced military college/school that is fully funded. For example, U.S. Naval War College, Army War College, Army Sgt Major Academy, etc.

SEGs cover the cost of fees, books, study guides, supplies, equipment, computers, and other documented educational costs directly related to the course of study.

- Textbooks
- Computers/laptops/tablets (once every three years)
- Study guides (Clep, Dantes, etc.)
- Workbooks
- Lab books
- Art supplies
- Audio-visual materials

- Scientific calculators
- Specialized software
What's Not Covered?
- Tuition
- Childcare
- Field trips
- Food
- Ordinary school supplies (paper, pencils, notebooks, etc.)
- Parking
- Transportation
- General software (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Computer accessories (keyboard, mouse, Apple pen, monitors, printers, cases/covers, etc.)
- Gaming computers
