CGMA Welcomes CDR Brooke A. Millard, USCG (Ret) as New Chief Executive Officer

Coast Guard Mutual Assistance is pleased to announce the appointment of CDR Brooke A. Millard, USCG (Ret) as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 26 August 2024. CDR Millard succeeds RADM (Ret) Cari B. Thomas, who has led the organization with distinction since 2018.

CDR Millard is a 2003 Coast Guard Academy graduate who earned an M.A. in English from the University of Maryland. She is a Cutterman with over twelve years of sea time aboard four ships, including command of the 110 ft patrol boat USCGC Grand Isle (WPB-1338) of Gloucester, Massachusetts, and as the Executive Officer of America’s Tall Ship Eagle (WIX-327). She most recently served as the Commanding Officer of CGC BEAR (WMEC-907) and has previously served as a speechwriter for the Commandant and Vice Commandant.

We are thrilled to welcome CDR Millard to the CGMA family,” said RADM Joe Raymond, President of the CGMA Board of Directors. “Her proven leadership, strategic vision, and dedication to service members and their families make her the ideal choice to lead CGMA into its next chapter.

As CEO, CDR Millard will focus on enhancing CGMA’s programs and services, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring sustainable growth to better serve the Coast Guard community. She will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, and stakeholders to advance CGMA’s mission of providing financial, educational, and other support to Coast Guard members and their families.

RADM Thomas has distinguishably led the organization since 2018, distributing over $50 million to more than 49,000 clients, significantly shaping CGMA’s impact during some of its most significant and critical years. Her strategic initiatives professionalized fundraising, renewed and established key relationships, and grew CGMA’s financial stability from $30 million to $50 million. We sincerely appreciate Admiral Thomas’s contributions and wish her fair winds and following seas as she embarks on her next chapter, knowing her legacy will continue to guide and inspire CGMA’s mission and values.

During the interim period, Jason Wong, CGMA’s Chief Operating Officer, will serve as Acting CEO until CDR Millard assumes the role. Jason Wong has been an integral part of CGMA’s leadership team, ensuring continuity and stability during this transition.

Please join us in welcoming CDR Brooke A. Millard to CGMA. We look forward to a future of continued growth and impact under her leadership.
