For BM2 Logan Willhoitte and his family, that support became essential just days after they arrived at a new duty station.

A New Home, Then Disaster

BM2 Willhoitte had recently reported to U.S. Coast Guard Station Sand Key when Hurricane Helene struck. Instead of having time to settle into their new home, the family found themselves facing the devastating effects of the hurricane’s storm surge.

Their home was inundated with six feet of water and sewage. Nearly all of the family’s belongings were destroyed, turning what should have been the beginning of a new chapter into an overwhelming loss.

Because the family had moved only days before the storm, they had not yet established renters’ insurance. They were left without coverage for the household goods they had lost and faced the difficult task of rebuilding from the ground up.

Coast Guard Disaster Assistance

CGMA stepped in with a $24,000 grant that covered 100% of the family’s damaged household goods.

CGMA disaster assistance gave the Willhoitte family the resources to begin replacing what Hurricane Helene had taken. At a moment of tremendous uncertainty, they knew they did not have to face the recovery alone.
