Widows and widowers of Coast Guard Active Duty or retirees are eligible for CGMA assistance.
You can apply with the CGMA Representative at the nearest CG unit or at a local American Red Cross. If you are not near those resources, you may contact CGMA-HQ directly at email@example.com.
There is also a simplified application for retirees and annuitants.

Basic Living Expenses Loan
CGMA offers short-term help with food, shelter, utilities, and necessities in lots of unforeseen circumstances. Personal funds may have been lost or stolen or used for another emergency, a roommate may have left, or a spouse may be temporarily out of work.
Vehicle Repair Loan
Clients who can't afford major, unexpected car repairs can turn to CGMA.
Home Repair Loan
Home repairs can be sudden, serious, and costly. A fire, burst pipe, roof failure, or other emergency can put your family in danger. If repairs are necessary and you don’t have the funds, CGMA can help with a loan. In extreme circumstances, CGMA will consider a larger loan or a partial grant.
Funeral Expenses Loan
When a loved one dies and the family faces a serious financial burden, CGMA can offer a loan to pay for a modest funeral.
Closing Costs Loan
We know how important home is to Coast Guard members who must find a new one so frequently. You’ve worked hard to find and qualify for a house. Now CGMA can help with the final piece: closing costs.
College costs are a challenge, whether for yourself, your spouse, or your children. CGMA members can borrow up to $6,000 for higher education expenses.
Stafford/PLUS Loan Fee Grant
Many families finance higher education through the Federal Stafford Loan or Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS). CGMA makes the process easier by offering a grant to reimburse you for the mandatory loan fee, which can be up to 4%.
Most medical and dental care is covered by government benefits, but in some extraordinary cases you can be left with a hefty bill. CGMA is there to fill the gap.
Pet Expenses Loan
CGMA considers pets an essential part of the Coast Guard family. We’re here to help when pet expenses are overwhelming.
Elder Care Loan
As baby boomers age, more Americans are facing the costs of elder care. CGMA is there as always, providing interest-free loans for costs like installing specialized equipment or moving an elderly and/or disabled family member.
Debt Management Loan
CGMA supports its members as they work on their financial resilience. The Debt Management Loan helps create the minimum financial condition to allow the client to live frugally while paying off debts responsibly.
Financial Counseling Grant
Education and budgeting can make all the difference in your financial situation. If a member is unable to use financial counseling from Coast Guard sources, CGMA will pay for services from a member of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC).
