Who helps the helpers? We do. In major disasters such as hurricanes and typhoons and personal disasters like fires, the Coast Guard community can count on CGMA as a trusted and reliable resource. CGMA has loans and grants for a range of needs from evacuation, to replacing essentials and starting repairs.

CGMA offers short-term help with food, shelter, utilities, and necessities in lots of unforeseen circumstances. Personal funds may have been lost or stolen or used for another emergency, a roommate may have left, or a spouse may be temporarily out of work.

Clients who can't afford major, unexpected car repairs can turn to CGMA.

Home repairs can be sudden, serious, and costly. A fire, burst pipe, roof failure, or other emergency can put your family in danger. If repairs are necessary and you don’t have the funds, CGMA can help with a loan. In extreme circumstances, CGMA will consider a larger loan or a partial grant.

When a loved one dies and the family faces a serious financial burden, CGMA can offer a loan to pay for a modest funeral.

We know how important home is to Coast Guard members who must find a new one so frequently. You’ve worked hard to find and qualify for a house. Now CGMA can help with the final piece: closing costs.

In the United States, one in eight couples has trouble getting pregnant or staying pregnant. CGMA supports members of the Coast Guard community with financial assistance to build their families. Assistance is available for clients wishing to engage in a recognized fertility treatment program or associated costs not covered by TRICARE.

Are you growing your family through adoption? CGMA can reimburse you for the cost of the home study.

CGMA can help you proceed with an adoption when finances are tight. Get an interest-free loan of up to $6,000 to cover adoption-related costs.

College costs are a challenge, whether for yourself, your spouse, or your children. CGMA members can borrow up to $6,000 for higher education expenses.

Many families finance higher education through the Federal Stafford Loan or Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS). CGMA makes the process easier by offering a grant to reimburse you for the mandatory loan fee, which can be up to 4%.

When a child is stillborn, burial costs may not be covered by insurance or SGLI. CGMA is there to provide a grant of up to $1,500.

You can make a real difference in your financial situation through financial education and counseling. It works best if spouses attend together. CGMA makes it a little bit easier by providing for childcare.

Education and budgeting can make all the difference in your financial situation. If a member is unable to use financial counseling from Coast Guard sources, CGMA will pay for services from a member of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC).

CGMA supports its members as they work on their financial resilience. The Debt Management Loan helps create the minimum financial condition to allow the client to live frugally while paying off debts responsibly.

Childcare is one of the biggest expenses a family faces. CGMA can’t cover regular monthly costs, but interest-free loans are available for initial fees and for childcare during emergencies.

As baby boomers age, more Americans are facing the costs of elder care. CGMA is there as always, providing interest-free loans for costs like installing specialized equipment or moving an elderly and/or disabled family member.
